SUMMARY:How to Recognize and Adapt to Dementia and its Affects
DESCRIPTION:Greetings and Welcome!\n\nHave you ever felt frustrated with someone you love who seems to ignore your advice or persistently do the 'wrong' things when they should know better? Do they frequently repeat the same story\, sometimes within only a few minutes? Do they repeatedly ask the same question over and over\, even when you have clearly responded? Do they clearly remember what happened 20\, 30\, or 40 years ago\, but can't remember what happened today or even 10 minutes ago?\n\n\n\nAn increasing number of our elderly members in our community are being affected by dementia. More than simple lapses of memory\, dementia is a decline in brain function that can affect memory as well as judgment\, perception\, and other critical processes. What may appear like forgetfulness\, stubbornness\, moodiness\, and resistance to change may actually be early signs of dementia\; an irreversible and at this time incurable decline in brain function. Recognizing critical signs and adapting with appropriate medication and personal support can make a big difference in the quality of life for both the afflicted individual and their family members.\n\n\n\nChaska Heights Senior Living will be hosting an informational evening session that can help you to recognize and adapt to dementia and it affects. The workshop includes a 1 hour "Dementia Friends" presentation by a trained professional along with 30 minutes for questions and discussion. You will learn how to distinguish dementia symptoms from signs of 'normal' aging\, and you will learn specific adaptive behaviors for connecting with persons dealing with the affects of dementia.\n\nPlease join us to learn more about this disease and how you can connect and interact more effectively in it's midst.\n\n\n\nThursday February 22\, 2018\n\nChaska Heights Senior Living Community Room\n\n6:30pm to 8:00pm\n\n \n\nDementia is a broad category of diseases of the brain affecting daily living including Alzheimer's\, Lewy Body disease\, traumatic brain injuries\, vascular issues\, and more.
